Describes what a person has… not what a person is.

 


Always put the person first.

Phrases To Avoid

Generalities such as ‘handicapped’ or ‘disabled’

Terms such as ‘problem’ or ‘affliction’

Words that address the disability rather than the person. Dehumanization.

Phrases like ‘suffers from’ or ‘confined to’.
 

Remember be positive, not negative.
